SDG 12.2.1: Ethical Sourcing Policy at Universitas Mataram

Universitas Mataram Strengthens Ethical and Sustainable Sourcing through Institutional Commitment

In April 2026, Universitas Mataram (UNRAM) has established a comprehensive framework for ethical and sustainable sourcing through Rector’s Decree Number 5157/UN18/HK/2026 concerning the Commitment of Universitas Mataram in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The policy integrates social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and ethical procurement principles into the university’s purchasing and supplier management practices.

As part of its commitment to SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), UNRAM requires procurement activities to consider not only economic efficiency but also environmental and social impacts. The decree explicitly mandates the application of sustainability principles in procurement and supplier engagement. Specifically, the university commits to applying transparency, fairness, labor standards compliance, social responsibility, and environmental responsibility in the use of contractors, service providers, suppliers, and other third parties.

The policy further requires that procurement decisions consider:

  • Environmental sustainability and resource efficiency.
  • Responsible and sustainable supply-chain management.
  • Supplier compliance with applicable laws, standards, and regulations.
  • Social responsibility and fair labor practices.
  • Sustainable sourcing of food products and catering services.
  • Reduction of environmental impacts associated with purchased goods and services.

In addition, the decree promotes the use of sustainable agricultural, livestock, and fisheries products on campus by encouraging food sourcing practices that protect biodiversity, ecosystem health, animal welfare, and natural resources. These requirements help ensure that goods and services procured by the university are obtained from responsible and ethical sources.

Through these commitments, Universitas Mataram demonstrates that ethical sourcing is an integral part of its governance and sustainability strategy. The policy extends expectations beyond internal operations and encourages suppliers and contractors to align their business practices with environmental, social, and ethical standards, stated in:

  • Point 10: Social and environmental responsibility for suppliers, contractors, and third parties.
  • Point 13: Promotion of sustainably sourced food from responsible agricultural, livestock, and fisheries practices.
  • Point 21: Sustainable procurement considering environmental, social, resource-efficiency, and sustainable supply-chain aspects.
