UNRAM has declared in Rector Decree Number 10 year 2022 about how to reduce the impact of environmental damage in two mechanisms: Waste reduction and waste maintenance.

The waste reduction policy covers

  1. Minimising waste generation at the source (reduce);
  2. Reuse the biodegradable materials; and/or
  3. Promoting the reuse of materials where it is possible (recycle).

The waste management covers:

  1. Sorting, group and separate the waste according to type (organic and inorganic), quantity, and/or properties of the waste;
  2. Collection, pick up and move waste from the source to a temporary storage place or an integrated waste processing site;
  3. Transportation, carry the waste from the source and/or from temporary storage or integrated waste processing site to the final disposal site;
  4. Processing, change the characteristics, composition, and quantity of the waste.

The initiation had been started since 6 October, 2020 when the Vice Rector III, Prof. Dr. Ir. Enny Yuliani, M.Si, launched the Zero Waste program Unram. To continuously guarantee that the program run well, create a clean, healthy, comfortable, and sustainable campus environment, Universitas Mataram recognizes the need to strengthen its commitment to responsible waste management.

As a higher education institution, the university has a responsibility to serve as a role model in environmental stewardship while fostering a culture of awareness, responsibility, and active participation in maintaining campus cleanliness. Therefore, a campus-wide waste management initiative is needed to encourage the entire university community to contribute to proper waste management and support a more sustainable campus environment supported with the circular letter.

To support the regulation, Unram campaign bottle donations in several of its units. This campaign is to encourage people not throw their waste drink package randomly.
