As UNRAM starts to reach zero waste to landfill, a number of efforts and rules have been put in place to reduce the amount of plastic packaging used on campus. To support this initiation, UNRAM issues Rector Decree Number 10 year 2022. It is written in Article 8 that to reduce the number of garbage, UNRAM encourage to:
- Encourages the usage of reusable or biodegradable materials and discourages single-use plastics in campus activities
- Minimise the usage on campus of unnecessary plastic packaging
- Avoid the use of single-use plastics in campus activities
- Use materials/ products labeled with biodegradable materials
- Use products with information on how to use, to keep, and after use them
- Encourage reuse materials

The decree is implemented following circular letter number 5978/UN18/TU/2026. In order to minimize the use of plastic packaging, Universitas Mataram (Unram) plans to establish two free drinking water stations on campus, one located near the Unram Food Court and the other at the intersection of four faculties, close to the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) canteen. These facilities are intended to provide members of the university community with convenient access to safe, hygienic, and potable drinking water. Moreover, Unram also distributed Unram tumbler to all the University lecturers and staffs.
The development of the two drinking water stations is supported by Bank BTN, which has provided resupply station equipment to help ensure the availability of clean and safe drinking water. By making drinking water readily accessible, the initiative is expected to encourage students and staff to refill their personal bottles rather than purchase bottled water, thereby contributing to a reduction in single-use plastic consumption on campus.

On Friday, February 14, 2025, the Rector of Universitas Mataram personally inspected the proposed locations for the free drinking water resupply stations. The site visit was conducted to assess the planned facilities and ensure thatΒ they can be implemented effectively and provide optimal benefits for the entire university community.
Finally, on April 14, 2025, The handover ceremony was conducted by the Head of BTN Mataram Branch Alem Wijaya and Head of the Regional Office (Kanwil) of BTN East Java Bali Nusa Tenggara Carly Tambunan. It was handed over to the Rector of Unram, Prof. Bambang Hari Kusumo, and attended by the Unram board of leaders.
